ABOUT US

Welcome to Winfield Church of the Nazarene! We're so glad you've taken the time to check us out online, and we hope we'll get to meet you very soon in one of our services or groups that meet throughout the week!

You're probably wondering what we're all about - what goes on at our church and who are we? We are a community of Christ-followers who worship and learn together each week, and look for opportunities to serve the community around us to show Christ's love. People just like you make up our congregation - people from every walk of life including new believers, life-long Christians and those wanting to know what Jesus is all about. No matter where you are in your life, there's a place for you at Winfield Nazarene.

Our Mission

CONNECT

As the Church (the body of Christ) one main role is to connect with one another, lifting one another up and encouraging each other.

1 Thessalonians. 5:11

GROW

Growth takes many forms, whether growing closer to one another, growing as a human being, or growing in our relationship with Christ.

Colossians 1:10

LIVE

This is simply the idea that Christ should be changing our lives every single day. We are to take up our crosses daily to follow Jesus, living lives of self-sacrifice and radical love, that others might find Jesus.

Luke 9:23

Our History

Our Core Values

It all started in a tent...

We Are a Christian People

The Winfield church began in a tent revival September 4, 1983. From there, in a storefront setting on Main Street in Winfield, WV a church was planted. It was officially organized June 3, 1984 with 16 charter members. The church moved to the current location at 2986 Winfield Road in 1985. After expanding our facilities to better serve the community in 2003, we currently serve Putnam County in a beautiful setting on the banks of the Kanawha River.

The church is a part of the Nazarene West Virginia South District which includes 52 Nazarene churches from Charleston to the southern parts of the state. We participate in several activities with other churches throughout the year through our youth, children's and mission programs.

As members of the Church Universal, we join with all true believers in proclaiming the Lordship of Jesus Christ and in embracing the historic Trinitarian creedal statements of Christian faith. We value our Wesleyan-Holiness heritage and believe it to be a way of understanding the faith that is true to Scripture, reason, tradition, and experience.

We Are a Holiness People

God, who is holy, calls us to a life of holiness. We believe that the Holy Spirit seeks to do in us a second work of grace, called by various terms including "entire sanctification" and "baptism with the Holy Spirit"-cleansing us from all sin, renewing us in the image of God, empowering us to love God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves, and producing in us the character of Christ. Holiness in the life of believers is most clearly understood as Christlikeness.

We Are a Missional People

We are a sent people, responding to the call of Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit to go into all the world, witnessing to the Lordship of Christ and participating with God in the building of the Church and the extension of His kingdom (Matthew 28:19-20; 2 Corinthians 6:1). Our mission (a) begins in worship, (b) ministers to the world in evangelism and compassion, (c) encourages believers toward Christian maturity through discipleship, and (d) prepares women and men for Christian service through Christian higher education.
